White bass spawning in the Shiawassee Flats
June 1st, 2010
Here is a link to YouTube and a video I shot of white bass spawning in the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge. It was an incredible afternoon. I will try and get some still images up this evening.

Lookin' for a Reason
May 14th, 2010
It looks like april's showers and temperatures have come in May! The water is up right now, but won't be for long. Bulldogs is racing on Sunday, so for me that is a MUST DO. But... I would really like to go out Johnny Panthering on Saturday afternoon in the elevated water. Following is a link to a yet another video from the Shiawassee Flats. Another spectacular day just outside of Birch Run. It should be noted that the water was substantially lower than it is right now. What was tranquil and placid is now rockin' n' rollin'! I live for this stuff.

Wind's Song or Another Shiawassee Flats Lullaby
May 11th, 2010
I have had some nice boat rides lately. Honestly the bad ones are few and far between, even they have many positives. I'm sitting here avoiding laundry foldage, instead sharing some adventures Johnny Panthering. I'm sure you reading this must be bored to tears. It's often difficult to capture a feeling, emotion, or vision through print. Even video doesn't do justice to life's imagery and experiences. I went out on my own the other day, my cooler and dry bag weighing down the front of the boat. It was awesome as usual and the breeze lulled me into a state of euphoria. I am Johnny Panthering, I don't need no stinkin' sunscreen! I might've been right on one account...
Here is a link to that afternoon. When the video goes dark, it's not a malfunction. It was a dark night with no moon and using a spot light is cheating in my book!

Here are a couple of YouTube links of some of my videos. Though not professionally produced, I think they will give you a descent perspective of what it is like Johnny Panthering in Michigan.

Windy, Gray, and Blown Away
April 29th, 2010
We took a boat ride last Saturday through the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge and State Game Area. The weather was marginal at best. I was hoping we would beat the rain, we didn't. The wind was blowing pretty hard and I thought the water might be up a little, it wasn't. Fortunately the wildlife was responsive, which is usual with crappy weather. Another treat was that my guests were up for a mini-marathon trip. Unfortunately we paid the price on the way back into the wind and showers. It calmed down when we were in the "narrow part" for a while, and we had several deer run through the only inches deep river ahead of us. Finally we abandoned ship and hiked a hundred yards when we ran out of water. We saw at least eight different eagles including an adult pair flying with fish in their talons back to their nest. A rare and welcome sight on any tour. It is supposed to really heat up tomorrow, and the trip I had scheduled cancelled. It wouldn't take much of a reason to get me out there on such a balmy afternoon.
